Getting started
Is it really free?
Yes. Posting, bidding, messaging and reviews are free while we launch, with no limits. General contractors will stay free. When a Pro plan for trades arrives, Founding Members get a lower price, and the free plan stays.
How long does approval take?
We review every new company by hand. You can finish your profile and add badges while you wait, and we email you as soon as you're approved.
Where does Contracting Bridge work?
Anywhere in the United States. Projects are matched by distance from each trade's home ZIP code, so you'll see more activity as more companies join near you.
Is there an app to download?
No download needed. Every page works in a phone's browser. Sign in at contractingbridge.com from any phone, tablet or computer.
Can one company have more than one person on the account?
Not yet. Each account is one person and one company. Team accounts are on the list for larger builders.
Posting projects
Who can see my project?
Only companies we've approved. Post to "Trades nearby" and it shows up for trades in the trades you picked who work in that area. Choose "Invite only" and only the companies you invite can see it. Nobody sees the street address.
Will trades see my client's address?
No. Trades see the town and ZIP code. Share the street address with the company you hire.
What files can I upload?
PDFs, photos (JPG, PNG, HEIC), spreadsheets, Word documents and ZIP files, up to 50 MB each. Only approved companies who can see the project can open them.
Can I post commercial work?
Yes. Mark a project as residential or commercial when you post it. Trades can filter for either one.
Can I invite my own subs?
Yes. Every open project has an invite list of approved trades near the job, filtered by the trades you picked. Invited companies see the project in their Invitations tab.
Can I change the bid date?
You can close bidding early, and reopen a closed project with a new due date.
Bidding
Can I see bids before the due date?
Yes. By default you see each bid the moment it arrives, and you can award one any time, which closes bidding. If you'd rather compare everything at once, choose "Sealed until the due date" when you post, and bids stay hidden until bidding closes. Either way, trades never see each other's bids.
Can other trades see my bid?
No. Your bid is visible only to you and the contractor who posted the project. Other bidders never see it, on any project.
Can a contractor award before the due date?
Yes, unless the project is marked "Sealed bidding." The bid form tells you which kind of project it is, and the project shows Awarded as soon as the job is taken.
Do I pay to bid on an invitation?
No, and you never will. When a contractor invites you to bid, seeing the project and bidding on it is free on every plan.
Can I change my bid?
Withdraw it and send a new one any time while bidding is open. Once the job is awarded or bidding closes, bids are final.
What happens when I win?
Your bid shows as Awarded, the other bids show as Not selected, and you can message the contractor to schedule. Once the work is done, you can review each other.
Do you take a cut of the job?
No. You work out the contract and payment directly with the company you hire. Contracting Bridge never handles payment for the work.
Verification and reviews
How do you check insurance and licenses?
Companies upload their certificate of insurance and license. Our team reviews each one and checks licenses with the issuing state. The Insured and Licensed badges appear only after a document is approved.
Do I need a contractor license to join?
No. Not every trade or state requires one, so the license is optional. If you hold one, add it to earn the Licensed badge.
Who can leave a review?
Only the contractor who awarded a job and the trade who won it, once each per project. The reviewed company can post one public reply.
Can I respond to a review?
Yes. The reviewed company can post one public reply under each review.
