Subcontractor jobs

Painting subcontractor jobs near you

Painting packages come from builders finishing new homes and from remodelers on kitchens, basements and whole-house jobs. Listings show the rooms or square footage, so you can price from the scope and photos.

The painting work contractors post

  • New construction interior paint for builders
  • Exterior repaints and trim
  • Cabinet painting on remodels
  • Commercial tenant repaints
  • Prep and paint after drywall on additions

Every project is posted by a builder or general contractor we've reviewed, with the town and ZIP code, bid due date and files. You see how far each job is from your shop.

How it works

  1. Set up your profile. Pick painting and any other trades you do, your home ZIP code and how far you'll travel.
  2. Find and watch projects. Open the plans and photos, ask the contractor questions, and watch the ones you're pricing.
  3. Send your bid. Your price, earliest start date and notes, from your phone or computer. Only that contractor sees it.

No lead fees and no cut of the job. You agree on the contract and payment directly with the contractor.

Pricing painting work from a listing

What contractors compare, and where painting bids usually differ.

Check the listing for

  • Square footage or a room list, and ceiling heights
  • Number of coats and sheen, and whether ceilings and trim are in
  • Product and color count, or who picks the colors
  • Condition of the surfaces, for exterior work
  • Whether the home is occupied and furniture is in place

How it's usually priced

Usually per square foot of floor area for new construction, or per room or by surface for repaints, with trim, doors and cabinets priced separately.

Contractors compare bids side by side, so naming your units and what's included makes yours easy to pick.

Say what's in or out

  • Number of colors and accent walls
  • Caulking and patching before paint
  • Doors and trim, and whether they're sprayed or brushed
  • Protection and cleanup in occupied homes

Licenses and insurance for painting subcontractors

Most states don't license painters separately, but some require a home improvement or contractor registration. On homes built before 1978, work that disturbs painted surfaces must follow the EPA lead-safe (RRP) rule with a certified firm.

On Contracting Bridge you can add your certificate of insurance and license to earn the Insured and Licensed badges, which show on every bid. Some projects require them. You can still see those projects and get your badges in place before you bid.

This is general information, not legal advice. Requirements change by state and city, so check with your state's licensing board and your insurance agent. What insurance subcontractors need

Questions from painting subcontractors

Is interior and exterior painting the same listing?

Contractors pick the trades a project needs, so a project can ask for interior paint, exterior paint or both. Choose the ones you do on your profile and you'll see the matching projects.

How do I keep my bid comparable?

State the coats, sheen and what's included, such as ceilings, trim and doors. That's what contractors line up when they compare painting bids.

Is it really free?

Yes. Posting, bidding, messaging and reviews are free while we launch, with no limits. General contractors will stay free. When a Pro plan for trades arrives, Founding Members get a lower price, and the free plan stays.

Where does Contracting Bridge work?

Anywhere in the United States. Projects are matched by distance from each trade's home ZIP code, so you'll see more activity as more companies join near you.

Do I pay to bid on an invitation?

No, and you never will. When a contractor invites you to bid, seeing the project and bidding on it is free on every plan.
