Roofing subcontractor jobs near you
Builders and general contractors post roofing packages for new homes, re-roofs, storm repairs and light commercial work, with the measurements and photos you need to price them. You set your home ZIP code and how far you'll drive, and the jobs in that radius come to you.
The roofing work contractors post
- Tear-off and re-roof on occupied homes
- New construction roofs for builders, often several houses at once
- Storm and insurance repairs
- Metal and low-slope roofs on additions and light commercial buildings
- Gutters, ridge vent and skylights bundled with the roof
Every project is posted by a builder or general contractor we've reviewed, with the town and ZIP code, bid due date and files. You see how far each job is from your shop.
How it works
- Set up your profile. Pick roofing and any other trades you do, your home ZIP code and how far you'll travel.
- Find and watch projects. Open the plans and photos, ask the contractor questions, and watch the ones you're pricing.
- Send your bid. Your price, earliest start date and notes, from your phone or computer. Only that contractor sees it.
No lead fees and no cut of the job. You agree on the contract and payment directly with the contractor.
Pricing roofing work from a listing
What contractors compare, and where roofing bids usually differ.
Check the listing for
- Squares, pitch and number of stories, or a measurement report
- How many layers come off, and whether decking replacement is priced per sheet
- The product line and color, or "equal to" a named shingle
- Who supplies materials, the dumpster and the permit
- Start window and whether the home is occupied
How it's usually priced
Usually per square (100 square feet) for the field, with separate line items or unit prices for extra layers, decking per sheet, flashing, ridge vent and steep or high roofs.
Contractors compare bids side by side, so naming your units and what's included makes yours easy to pick.
Say what's in or out
- Decking replacement, so ask for a per-sheet price instead of guessing
- Ice and water shield coverage at eaves and valleys
- Drip edge, pipe boots and chimney or wall flashing
- Disposal, magnet sweeps and protecting landscaping
Licenses and insurance for roofing subcontractors
Roofing licenses vary a lot by state. Some states license roofers separately, others cover roofing under a home improvement or general license, and some cities add their own. General liability insurance is the first thing most contractors ask for, and many also ask for workers' comp because of the fall risk.
On Contracting Bridge you can add your certificate of insurance and license to earn the Insured and Licensed badges, which show on every bid. Some projects require them. You can still see those projects and get your badges in place before you bid.
This is general information, not legal advice. Requirements change by state and city, so check with your state's licensing board and your insurance agent. What insurance subcontractors need
Questions from roofing subcontractors
Do builders post new construction roofs in batches?
Many do. A builder can post one project per house or one package covering several lots. The listing says which, and you can message the builder to ask about the schedule for the rest of the phase.
How do I handle decking I can't see?
Price the roof with an allowance or a per-sheet price for replacement decking, and say so in your bid notes. Contractors compare bids more easily when the unknowns are priced the same way.
Is it really free?
Yes. Posting, bidding, messaging and reviews are free while we launch, with no limits. General contractors will stay free. When a Pro plan for trades arrives, Founding Members get a lower price, and the free plan stays.
Where does Contracting Bridge work?
Anywhere in the United States. Projects are matched by distance from each trade's home ZIP code, so you'll see more activity as more companies join near you.
Do I pay to bid on an invitation?
No, and you never will. When a contractor invites you to bid, seeing the project and bidding on it is free on every plan.
